I received my card production ordered email today. All thanks God for making all this possible. I came to the US in Jan 1995 on F1 to begin my undergrad, switched to H1 in 1998, had a GC PD of 2002, and now 14 years and a countless visa's later, I was greened today.
I would not have made it through this journey without the expert advice on this forum to all the questions I asked - and just seeing everyone's contributions whether +ve or -ve to remind me that I am not in this thing alone.
For those that are still on the journey - just hang in there and your time surely will come!

WASHINGTON� U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) yesterday evening introduced legislation to renew the electronic system for employers to check the documentation of prospective employees, and to ensure that unused work or family-based visas are utilized. The Visa Efficiency and E-Verify Extension Act of 2008 will help American businesses and will protect family unity by reauthorizing the E-Verify program, recapturing unused or unclaimed employment-based visas and family-sponsored visas from fiscal years 1992 through 2007 and allowing unused family and employment-based visas in future years to automatically �roll over� to the next fiscal year. The E-Verify portion of the legislation mirrors E-Verify legislation passed this evening in the House of Representatives by a 407-2 vote.
Senators Patty Murray (D-WA), Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Maria Cantwell (WA) joined Senator Menendez as co-sponsors of the bill. The proposed legislation would shorten the long lines of families and employees currently waiting to receive green cards.
�Verifying that workers have their proper documentation is certainly important, and this bill ensures we are doing that while being fair to families who have waited in line for years and have paid their visa fees to reunite with their loved ones,� said Sen. Menendez. �We must couple the E-verify effort, which is good for business, with policy that is also good for families � it fits with our American value system and is a step towards fixing our broken immigration system.�
Summary of The Visa Efficiency and E-Verify Extension Act of 2008:
Recapture of Unused Visas: This bill recaptures unused or unclaimed employment-based visas and family-sponsored visas from fiscal years 1992 through 2007 and allows unused family and employment-based visas in future years to automatically �roll over� to the next fiscal year.
Extension of the Conrad State 30 Program: The bill extends the Conrad State 30 program for 5 years to June 1, 2013. The Conrad State 30 program was designed to provide each of the fifty U.S. states with 30 waivers for J-1 physicians each fiscal year.
Extension of Religious Worker Program: The bill requires DHS to issue final regulations to eliminate or reduce fraud related to the granting of special immigrant status for individuals working in a religious vocation or occupation. The bill extends the special immigrant non-minister religious worker program to October 1, 2011. Under this bill, the DHS Inspector General shall submit on the effectiveness of the regulations to reduce fraud by 2010.
Reauthorization of E-verify: This bill also reauthorizes the Department of Homeland Security�s (DHS) Basic Pilot electronic employment eligibility verification program, also known as �E-Verify.� This legislation provides for a 5-year extension of this program for the electronic employment verification of employees.
Protection of Social Security Administration Programs: This legislation requires DHS to provide timely and appropriate payments to the Social Security Administration so that E-verify does not interfere with SSA�s ability to serve seniors, people with disabilities, and survivors.
Government Accountability Office (GAO) Study of Basic Pilot Confirmation System: This bill requires the GAO to report to Congress on the causes of erroneous tentative nonconfirmations, how they are remedied and the effect they have on individuals, employers and federal agencies. It also requires the GAO to examine the experiences of small businesses, non-profits and municipalities with using Basic Pilot.

But it is for US embassy in Mexico, and there is no mention if there is minimum time before expiration date. Will it apply for US embassy in Delhi too?

Just write to your state DOL and they will take care after that. You might have to provide some proof for them to start investigation. Make sure you have a plan B with regards to work and status if things go south.

My lawyer is saying you need a valid reason to apply. My wife wants to visit India when i asked he said you cannot apply AP for visiting purpose, you need a valid reason to apply and a letter or wedding invitation to apply.

There is a bill pending in the House which was introduced by Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California which is similar to this new Senate bill which was introduced yesterday by Sen. Barbara Boxer of California. The House bill is H.R. 6039 and the Senate bill is S. 3084. Both of these bills propose to exempt U.S. advanced degree holders working for the U.S. employers from the numerical limit in the employment based immigration. The full text of the House bill is posted on May 11, 2008.

Does anyone know what time it may take for FP notices to arrive for guys whose cases were Xfered to CSC?
BTW, does that make any difference if the 485 case has been transferred from another center to TSC? majority of guys who've got the FP notice are straight filters at TSC.

Can anyone help me.
My I -485 status on line says my case has be suspended due to the rejection of my finger printing fee.
Meanwhile i received my finger printing notice eventhough my case was suspended.
My attorney responded to the billing notice and USCIS wrote (This Letter the uscis sent was dated Sept 17 th .)back to say that the check we sent was an overpayment because we proved to them that the initial check had been cashed.
The problem is that the status on line still is suspended. I called the TSC and the operator said the case is in their system.
What can i do to correct these conflicting messages.
Can anyone suggest what i should do

if you qualified and filed for 485 depending on your PD, you most probably will get only 1 year extension. I just filed mine May 29th for 3 years and filed my 485 June 8th but when approved I got my H1 extension approved only for 1 year. I may be wrong, just referencing what my lawyer said..

approval date (random) of your H1 extension application.
But in the latest FAQ http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/EBFAQ1.pdf (question 17),
they announced that if your PD is not current at the time of your *date of filing/received date*, they will give
you three years extension.
I applied my extension on July 9th thinking that my PD is not current based on July 2nd VB. :(
Now it seems I get only one year extension.

Agree with you Infinite_Patience_GC.......for desis I would not recommend doing a full time MBA unless you get into top 10. Foreign students are having a hard time finding a job even at top 10 schools these days.
Although one good thing about part time is that it is less risky and usually lot of big companies help in reimbursing some of the tuition.
